The Opportunity

Shape Canada’s Underground Future

Bring deep technical expertise to infrastructure that connects communities, enables industry, and performs safely beneath complex ground conditions. Your leadership will help transform underground challenges into resilient, constructible solutions.

Based in Mississauga within the Greater Toronto Area, you will contribute as a Senior Tunnelling Engineer to complex tunnelling, underground, mining, and infrastructure projects across Canada. Working with multidisciplinary teams throughout the project lifecycle—from early-stage studies and geological investigations through detailed design and construction support—you will lead technical delivery, strengthen client confidence, mentor developing professionals, and advance WSP’s tunnelling and rock engineering capabilities.

Your Impact

  • Lead tunnelling, slope stability, and underground excavation assignments in rock from concept and feasibility through detailed design and construction support.

  • Deliver geotechnical and geostructural solutions that improve safety, constructability, efficiency, and long-term performance for critical underground infrastructure.

  • Guide geological investigations, alignment studies, ground characterization, excavation support design, and advanced numerical analyses to reduce uncertainty and manage project risk.

  • Collaborate across geotechnical, structural, geological, mining, and environmental disciplines to create integrated solutions for clients and communities.

  • Strengthen client relationships by communicating clear technical recommendations and contributing to proposals, project planning, and business development activities.

  • Develop emerging professionals and advance technical excellence through mentorship, quality reviews, innovation, knowledge sharing, and lessons learned.

The Skills That Set You Apart

  • A degree in geological, mining, civil, or geotechnical engineering; a master’s degree in tunnelling, rock mechanics, or a related discipline is an asset.

  • 10–15 years of consulting experience in rock mechanics, tunnelling, underground excavation, and infrastructure design.

  • Professional Engineer licence with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).

  • Proven experience delivering large-scale, multidisciplinary tunnelling and underground infrastructure projects from study phases through design and implementation.

  • Advanced expertise in rock excavation and support design for tunnels, shafts, slopes, portals, and stabilization systems, supported by sound knowledge of constructability and risk management.

  • Proficiency with numerical modelling tools such as RS2, RS3, PLAXIS, GeoStudio, or comparable software, together with the ability to interpret and communicate modelling limitations and results.

  • Demonstrated project leadership, technical writing, client advisory, and stakeholder engagement capabilities, with experience balancing competing priorities and delivering high-quality outcomes.

  • Fluency in English, with French considered an asset, plus a valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
