About the Role

An AI-enabled Canadian immigration law firm is seeking a Managing Attorney to lead legal operations and teams across multiple immigration practice areas. This role connects legal quality and risk management with business performance, while helping improve workflows through technology and automation.

What You’ll Do

  • Monitor operational health and performance metrics across immigration practice areas.

  • Lead lawyers, practice leads, and case managers through coaching, performance management, capacity planning, and organizational changes.

  • Connect legal operations with business outcomes by tracking measures such as cost per file, team efficiency, and practice economics.

  • Serve as the final legal escalation point for quality, risk, and complex case decisions.

  • Partner with product and engineering teams to improve legal workflows using AI and automation.

  • Support continuity across practices and guide teams through operational transitions.

What We’re Looking For

  • Four to fifteen years of experience practicing Canadian immigration law, including permanent residence and Express Entry, Family Class, and ideally work permits and criminal inadmissibility.

  • A law degree and an active Ontario law license in good standing.

  • Experience leading a legal practice or department and managing both lawyers and non-lawyer staff, including performance management.

  • Sound legal judgment and experience owning escalations, quality standards, and risk decisions.

  • Ability to assess operational metrics across business lines and comfort interpreting P&L measures, pricing trade-offs, and file economics.

  • Comfort using modern AI tools, including Claude Co-Work and Claude Code.

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation is CAD $160,000 to $200,000 annually. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Location

Hybrid in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, with three days per week in the office.
