Network Engineer II – Contract

Work Location: Mississauga, ON 
Work Arrangement: On-site, 5 days per week
Hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM | 37.5 hours/week
Contract: 6 months to start, with potential for extension
Pay Rate: $40–$58/hour
On-Call: Occasional on-call support and overnight project work

About the Opportunity

Our client is a leading global retail and distribution organization with a large, highly complex technology environment spanning hundreds of locations across North America. They are looking for a Network Engineer II to join their network infrastructure team in Mississauga.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on Network Engineer who enjoys working with large-scale LAN/WAN environments, Cisco and Juniper technologies, network security, routing protocols, wireless infrastructure, and network modernization projects.

In this role, you will help design, implement, maintain, and optimize network infrastructure while working closely with internal technology teams, business locations, vendors, and global network partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot network equipment including routers, switches, wireless access points, and firewalls across a large multi-site environment.

  • Perform network configuration and support both remotely and on-site.

  • Plan and execute hardware upgrades, network migrations, and infrastructure modernization initiatives.

  • Support projects involving LTE backup implementation, DSL migrations, VLAN deployments, switch retrofits, router upgrades, and network rack/stack/cabling activities.

  • Participate in troubleshooting sessions with multidisciplinary internal teams and external technology/vendor partners.

  • Work directly with business locations, including retail stores and distribution centers, to identify and resolve network issues.

  • Open, manage, and follow up on technical support tickets with equipment manufacturers and Internet Service Providers.

  • Monitor network performance and use data analytics, monitoring, and alerting tools to identify trends, improve reliability, and support future network design decisions.

  • Contribute to network infrastructure planning and long-term technology roadmaps.

  • Collaborate with global network engineering teams and external partners to review and share infrastructure designs and best practices.

  • Support network security initiatives and implementation of new security technologies.

  • Perform network data backups and assist with maintaining network-related security and protection measures.

  • Provide technical support during planned projects, including occasional overnight work and on-call support.

Required Qualifications

  • 4–6 years of relevant Network Engineering experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Strong experience with Cisco and/or Juniper network platforms, including routers and switches.

  • Hands-on experience designing, configuring, implementing, and supporting large-scale network infrastructures.

  • Strong knowledge of WAN and LAN technologies.

  • Solid understanding of network security concepts, components, and architecture.

  • Strong knowledge of routing protocols, particularly:

    • BGP

    • OSPF

    • EIGRP

  • Working knowledge of server and workstation operating systems, including basic troubleshooting and support.

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to work across complex network environments.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, business stakeholders, vendors, and technology partners.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • CCNP, CCIE, JNCIE, or other relevant networking certification.

  • Experience supporting and troubleshooting Wi-Fi/wireless networks.

  • Programming or scripting experience.

  • Experience using network monitoring, analytics, automation, or alerting tools.

  • Experience working in large enterprise, retail, distribution, or multi-site network environments.
